IT之家 10/5 news: Huawei and Qualcomm today announced a long-term, broad patent licensing agreement, which includes cross-licensing of the two parties' patent portfolios in multiple technology fields such as 5G, computing, artificial intelligence, and networking, while Qualcomm will acquire some of Huawei's US patents in computing, artificial intelligence, networking, and other technology fields.

This isthe first patent licensing agreement covering 5G technology between Huawei and Qualcomm。
Huawei said that after the deal is completed, the cumulative total value of all of the company's patent licensing agreements is expected to exceed 6.9 billion US dollars (IT之家 note: approximately 46.302 billion RMB at the current exchange rate).
Huawei stated that since 2021, the company's intellectual property licensing business has generated positive revenue, which is the return on Huawei's years of sustained heavy R&D investment.
In recent years, Huawei has continued to increase R&D investment. The trade restrictions implemented by the United States since 2019 have constrained Huawei's procurement of advanced chips and key software.
As early as 2001, Huawei paid patent licensing fees to Qualcomm for the first time; and in 2011, Huawei received its first patent licensing revenue from Motorola.
Before reaching this agreement with Qualcomm, Huawei had already announced in the 8th month of this year its patent licensing cooperation with HP Inc.
