ITHome News on October 9: On local time the 8th, according to Business Insider, Andrew Garfield plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the upcoming film Artificial, but the acting experience did not make him more optimistic about AI.
On the contrary, starring in the filmmade him feel doubts about AI. "I'm a bit scared of, and don't quite trust, this technology. The people developing AI and encouraging everyone to use it don't seem to fully know themselves what it can do. So personally, I find that a bit irresponsible."
Garfield has used ChatGPT to look up information and treated it as "Google on steroids," but he does not need to rely on AI for his acting work. "Fortunately, I'm an actor—unlike some people in other industries, I don't need to depend on AI in my life."

Artificial is directed by Luca Guadagnino and focuses onthe turmoil of Altman's brief removal from OpenAI in 2023. The film's cast covers many well-known Silicon Valley figures: Yura Borisov plays Ilya Sutskever, Monica Barbaro plays Mira Murati, Ike Barinholtz plays Elon Musk, and Cooper Hoffman plays Greg Brockman. The film is set to open in select theaters on December 25.
Altman has also expressed concerns about the film in interviews. In an interview this week with Politico's Decoded show, he said: "I'm sure the filmwon't accurately reflect the facts, but I hope it's fun and enjoyable to watch."
Altman also revealed in a Vanity Fair interview that he has watched the film's trailer, and that Garfield even imitated some of his habitual gestures. He recalled an encounter with the film crew near his home: "They were filming right outside my house. There was a notice posted on our street saying something about filming. I don't know why, but I paid no attention at all. One morning, I went out to buy coffee, and walking down the street I found myself surrounded by cameras, and there was a person dressed exactly like me, carrying the same backpack as mine, walking along. I genuinely felt like I had encounteredsome strange glitch in a simulated world。”
. Altman described the feeling at the time as "very strange." "Then I immediately understood what was going on. We waved to each other and went our separate ways. But it really was a weird feeling. Just think—seeing someone imitate your quirky little mannerisms so closely is a truly strange thing."
