On October 8, Kuaishou's Security Center released a special governance announcement on "AI-altered" videos, announcing that the platform handled a total of 2,544 pieces of violating content in September. This governance effort specifically targets behaviors such as improper romantic pairings of classic film and television characters from works like Journey to the West and Dream of the Red Chamber, or their cross-era interactions with popular game characters, marking a comprehensive tightening of platform compliance reviews of generative AI secondary-creation content.
Recently, AI-generated videos such as the "Sheng-Dai CP," which cross-pairs Sun Wukong from the 86 version of Journey to the West with Lin Daiyu from the 87 version of Dream of the Red Chamber, have exploded across the internet. However, their excessive entertainment-orientation and vulgarization, as well as some derivative content mixed with lowbrow violence, have also sparked controversy over their impact on young people's understanding of history and culture.
This governance action closely follows policy and regulatory requirements. The National Radio and Television Administration had already deployed a special governance campaign on "AI-altered" videos in December 2025, clearly stating that cultural appropriation and alteration based on the Four Great Classical Novels lead to misplaced cultural identifiers and undermine cultural identity. Beyond the divergence from cultural heritage and spiritual essence, AI secondary creations that directly use film footage, character images, and voices also face multiple legal compliance risks, including copyright, portrait rights, and the right to protect the integrity of works.
As AI generation technology has dramatically lowered the barrier to image and video creation, the "alteration" phenomenon will be hard to eliminate in the short term. How to curb unbridled proliferation while protecting legitimate secondary creation, and how to push governance toward greater refinement and standardization, has become a key issue for the healthy development of the AI-generated content (AIGC) industry.
