On October 10, Tencent Yuanbao announced that the Yuanbao desktop pet has launched on PC. After upgrading the Yuanbao PC client to v2.87.10 or above, users can click the avatar in the lower left corner to enter "My Desktop Pet" to activate it. The feature is offered in Beta form, and on WeChat, users can long-press to scan the QR code to add Yuanbao and chat with it.
The desktop pet embeds assistant capabilities across the full workday: at 9:00 in the morning, just as the computer boots up, it proactively greets the user and asks what to do first today; at 11:00 at noon, it supports dragging files, images, or even text directly to the desktop pet for quick summarization and processing, with the text-dragging feature being rolled out gradually; at 5:00 in the evening, as more and more web pages pile up, the desktop pet can "chew through" long web pages, highlight key points, and provide a summary directly.
In addition, companionship and interruption control are another design focus. When a task finishes or the user's help is needed, the desktop pet will move on its own to give a reminder, while staying quiet when the user is busy; when idle, users can drag the desktop pet to the edge of the screen, where it will stick to the screen edge to keep the user company while they work, occasionally throwing in a cold joke. The desktop pet supports drag-and-drop movement and has a sense of propriety, with capabilities such as edge-docking and proactive conversation.
Moving the assistant from a dialog box into a persistent desktop form is a typical path for AI assistants competing for user time. Unlike a floating window that simply runs in the background, the desktop pet adopts the interactive form of a concrete character, handing "perception" parameters such as wake conditions, reminder timing, and edge-docking position over to the user for adjustment, allowing the assistant to occupy a corner of the desktop without interrupting the main task.
