IT Home On October 10, a report in the Wall Street Journal yesterday at local time mentioned that Meta has put aside its plan to rent AI computing power to Anthropic.
Reports indicate that Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei personally called Meta’s Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, Alexandr Wang, earlier this year, hoping to rent AI computing chips from the competitor. Meta held internal discussions regarding this matter, and decided to not provide them for now.
As the self-developed models of the Muse series are gradually released, Meta’s AI business quickly recovered from a low point earlier on, and its demand for computing power also increased rapidly. At this time, selling computing power to Anthropic would be considered an act of “fighting one’s own enemy”.

The report mentions that the allocation of computing power resources is affecting the employment choices of artificial intelligence talent. The reason why Noam Shazeer, the core author of the Transformer architecture, resigned from Google a second time, is related to insufficient computing power. At the same time, numerous promises regarding computing power construction ultimately failed, limiting the development of the AI industry.
