According to a report by Windows Latest, Microsoft intends to pull the Copilot themes feature from the new Outlook worldwide in the middle to late part of the 10th month of 2026. This adjustment applies across platforms—the new Outlook on macOS and Windows, along with the web version Outlook.com, are all within scope.
Copilot themes was an AI interface-dressing capability Microsoft had previously built into the new Outlook: users opened the entry point, typed a few descriptive phrases or picked a ready-made direction, and Copilot would generate a visual style that completely changed the software's appearance. It was once promoted as a key update for the new Outlook on Win10 and Win11. However, media speculation holds that far fewer people actually used this feature than Microsoft had hoped, with clicks and retention unable to justify the investment, so it has now been decisively cut.
Also deleting the summary along the way, pulling the focus back to the dialog box
Also being retired in the same batch is "Wrap up your day." This feature proactively sent a prompt to Copilot to generate a condensed daily inbox report, pinned in the right sidebar. Now Microsoft is removing it as well, effectively taking back that "automatically summarize for you" piece of Outlook.
What replaces it is another path: Microsoft plans to update Outlook's Copilot experience this month, shifting to a simpler, chat-centric design, and also streamlining the navigation, conversation layout, and Work IQ controls. Clearly, Microsoft is moving its bet from "letting AI change your skin" to "letting AI actually get things done in the chat box"—cosmetic touches like interface beautification must ultimately give way to more substantial assistant capabilities.
