IT Home On October 14, according to Bloomberg, Indian renowned tech entrepreneur and Infosys Chairman Nandan Nirankar does not agree with the concern that AI will cause mass unemployment. He believes that AI can instead inject vitality into small businesses and create new skill demands.
At the age of 71, Nilekani is one of the seven co-founders of Infosys. At the Bloomberg Innovation Economy Forum held in New Delhi, he said that although tasks such as programming can be done more by AI, the application of technology and risk management will also create new job opportunities.
At the same time, he criticized the claim that “AI will replace human jobs” as “purely baseless”.

Nilekani believes that ensuring the safe and reliable operation of AI will create new jobs. “Enterprise transformation is not just about writing code. 70% of the work involves governance, change management, enterprise transformation, and security protection. How can we prevent AI robots from having hallucinations? And how can we prevent AI agents from losing control?”
He further pointed out that the new positions mainly focus on aspects such as understanding customer needs, coordinating cooperation, and organizing people to work together.
IndieSoft and other Indian software outsourcing giantsRelying on a large number of engineering graduates for writing programs for global clients for a long time. As companies like OpenAI and Anthropic continuously improve their AI model programming capabilities, the traditional software outsourcing model is being impacted.
Nilekani also admitted that programming work is gradually becoming automated, but technology accounts for only a small part of the entire service project. “The so-called AI-induced unemployment is just a disaster narrative propagated to serve the interests of large capital. The business demands faced by companies like ours are actually greater than ever before, because business transformation is very complex, and AI requires companies to fundamentally rethink their operating methods.”
Investors, however, have not shown the same confidence. According to reports from IT Home, as AI programming tools continue to improve and become more powerful, shareholders are increasingly worried about Inphosers’ ability to pursue new businesses. Over the past two years, Inphosers’ stock price has dropped by approximately 45%. On Tuesday local time, Inphosers’ stock price rose 3.2%, while its competitor Tata Consulting Services rose 6.2%.
Nilekani said, “We will only have more and more business. Of course, companies also need to be prepared to drive their transformation, help employees learn new skills, and establish new business capabilities. All of this is necessary, but it also means there will be even more work to be done in the future.”
