IT Home On October 14, according to Bloomberg, NVIDIA CEO Jim Hong announced during his visit to Europe that the company plans to invest $2 billion more (IT Home note: at current exchange rates, this is approximately 13.41 billion RMB) in investment. This trip to Europe also included a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
On the 13th local time, Tim Cook revealed that NVIDIA invested $8 billion in Europe over the past year (at current exchange rates, approximately 53.64 billion RMB), and will continue to increase its investments on this basis. He also announced capital injections into four French startups—Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment, and Entalpic.
As the world’s largest AI chip manufacturer, NVIDIA promises to invest billions of dollars across the globe, aiming to accelerate the adoption of AI technology and drive growth in demand for its products.
During Tim Cook’s visit to Europe, public opposition to AI is growing. People are not only concerned about AI models getting out of control, but also about the environmental impact of large data centers with high energy consumption, leading to more calls for restrictions on AI development.
Europe and the UK hope to participate in developing preventive measures to reduce the potential harms of AI. Tim Cook said during an event in Paris, the first stop of his trip to Europe, “Europe must join this competition.”
Next, he will also visit London and Berlin.
NVIDIA said that during the meeting between Tim Cook and Emmanuel Macron, both parties discussed NVIDIA’s investments in France, as well as topics such as open-source software and AI security.
Hong Quan-Jun has always argued that Europe should catch up with US advanced AI technology by developing an open-source model, as the cost of use can be lower and it is easier to adjust according to different needs. “The open model is very important because it can be customized based on different languages and technical autonomy.”
NVIDIA is an important partner of French Mistral AI. Mistral develops open-weight models, which means the model parameters are made public, allowing other developers to use and modify them freely.
NVIDIA has not only invested in Mistral, but also supplied its data center with AI acceleration chips. Mistral used 4,000 Grace Blackwell chips to train the latest model Le Chonk.
Huang Jinxun's recent investments also focus on promoting the development and popularization of open-source models. He hopes to enable AI to be used more widely in the global economy, and reduce market dependence on products from a few tech giants.
Huang Jinxun also announced investments in four French startups—Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment, and Entalpic. Doctolib is one of the most well-known startups in France. Since its establishment in 2013, Doctolib has provided administrative management services for doctors and other medical staff, and has also become a common platform for many European patients to schedule appointments.
Pigment mainly develops AI enterprise management software, while Entalpic uses AI in chemical and material research. Genesis AI focuses on robot AI technology.
Tim Cook expects that physical AI represented by humanoid robots will become the next huge market for NVIDIA’s technology.
