IT Home On October 23, the tech media outlet Windows Latest published a blog post today (October 23) stating that Microsoft is quietly testing an AI application for the Windows 11 system. The internal development project is codenamed Project Pantheon, and the testing version is called Context Vault. It can be regarded as a non-recorded version of the “Recall” function.
The “Review” feature has caused significant privacy concerns after its launch due to the automatic screen capture. To mitigate this privacy risk, the Context Vault app only stores content that users actively select, making it more similar to a searchable “second brain” that can be used to ask questions to AI. IT Home has attached the relevant images as follows:
Users can save web pages, files, screenshots, copied text, audio, and video as “memories” and categorize them by theme into collections. The built-in chat function in the app allows asking questions about these materials, such as summarizing a collection, organizing recent work tasks, or drafting content based on the materials.
The project also deeply integrates the Windows system entries: users can access them through browser extensions, File Explorer, sharing menus, screen shots, Click to Do, and clipboard saved content. In the sharing menu of File Explorer, Context Vault is listed alongside applications such as WhatsApp and Outlook.
This Context Vault app also supports the Model Context Protocol protocol, allowing third-party AI applications such as Claude and Cursor to access the memories saved by users.
