ITHome News on October 24 (10月24日): according to a report by CCTV News this morning, recently, some major online audiovisual platforms announced the September (9月) disposal situation of the special governance campaign against "AI-mutated" videos, clearing nearly 13,000 violating videos and handling more than 30 violating accounts in total。
CCTV News discussed in its report the difference between AI-mutated videos and derivative creations, saying that the problem with "AI mutation" lies neither in AI nor in derivative creation, but in the "mutation":
Excellent "derivative" works are based on an understanding of and affection for the original work. Having stood the test of audiences and time, they have been integrated into popular culture, have loyal fans, both reflect the spiritual outlook of a specific era and carry the collective memory of readers and viewers.
"AI-mutated" videos, on the other hand, are "an eyesore" and "ruin childhood classics"; while deconstructing the classics, the spirit carried by the classics is gradually disregarded, harming the foundation of culture. On the legal level, "AI-mutated" videos may also involve various issues of infringement.
According to ITHome, in order to further consolidate the governance results, starting from February 1, 2026, the governance of "AI-mutated" videos will continue through a normalized, institutionalized long-term mechanism.
The National Radio and Television Administration has urged all major online audiovisual platforms to further deepen the implementation of their primary responsibilities, strengthen daily inspections, focusing on clearing violating videos that "AI-mutate" classic film and television works based on the Four Great Classical Novels, historical themes, revolutionary themes, and heroic model figures, and simultaneously clear all kinds of creepy cartoons, continuing to foster a healthy online audiovisual ecosystem.
