On October 26th at noon, during the 2026 Gucha Conference, the open-source AI hardware HachimoDock — developed by the Xiaomi Technology Committee’s innovative product team — was unveiled. This is a desktop AI device that users can freely customize according to their preferences. The compact design integrates personalized desk pets, voice-controlled computer agents, smart home integration, and custom component creation capabilities.
According to the introduction, HachimoDock hardware has a self-made cost of approximately 150 yuan. The team hopes to lower the entry barrier for AI hardware, making it the first AI hardware for the general public to get started with Vibe Coding. It allows users to “create” a versatile desktop setup using natural language.
The capabilities of this device go beyond that: when a user expresses an idea, it can collaborate with AI to generate and run new components on the spot. Based on this open mechanism, it can be a microphone for quick voice input, a mini-game console with thousands of games built-in, a radio for listening to FM stations, or a desktop sub-screen that shows the progress of AI tasks and the computer status, as well as a desktop control center that integrates with smart homes... More ways to play are left for each user to create themselves.
Users can interact directly with the desk pet via voice. It converts the user’s intentions into various tasks that are assigned to agents such as Codex and WorkBuddy. For example, tasks like researching information, organizing files, and writing code. At the same time, the HachimoDock screen will also display the task status, such as thinking, execution, and waiting for confirmation, along with the desk pet’s expressions, actions, brief hints, and sound alerts to reflect the progress. Important operations involving authorization are still completed by the corresponding client.
HachimoDock’s voice operations have also extended to home environments. By linking with Xiaomi Miloco, users can initiate home control via voice commands. The small screen can also switch into a home console, displaying device status, lighting control, and monitoring images, allowing a desktop device to serve as both a computer agent and an interface for smart home devices.
Currently, HachimoDock has made its software source code available on GitHub, and provides a hardware bill of materials, structural model, and assembly tutorials. Users can modify it according to their own ideas. “We hope to leave the space for defining HachimoDock open to every user, so that more people can experience the joy of AI hardware creation at a lower cost,” said the person in charge of Xiaomi’s technology committee’s innovative product team.
