The capital and hardware frenzy in the field of artificial intelligence has once again reached a major milestone. Recently, chip giant Broadcom and artificial intelligence startup Anthropic finalized a debt financing deal worth as much as $63 billion, aimed at providing ample funding support for massive artificial intelligence infrastructure construction.
To bring this unprecedented artificial intelligence debt deal to fruition, Broadcom's CEO personally stepped in on an emergency basis, spending nearly two months traveling around and making every effort to persuade major banks to provide funding commitments for over $40 billion in loans. According to the plan, this massive sum will be used mainly to support Anthropic's leasing of specialized AI chips jointly developed by Broadcom and Google.
Although Anthropic, as the direct beneficiary, is the central player, due to the scale and credit limitations of a startup, it still could not have raised such an enormous amount of funding without the support of a financially powerful business partner. Currently, Anthropic is prominently rushing its IPO application, and the two sides had long been trying to finalize this key cooperation before formally filing. In this deal, known as "Project Polaris," Broadcom, at the center of the action, leveraged its outstanding credit rating and agreed to provide partial financial guarantees to the banks, thereby greatly dispelling financial institutions' anxiety about the risk of the more than $40 billion in loans. Previously, insiders revealed that because of the deal's unprecedented scale, some banks had expressed a degree of concern about participating in the project over the past few weeks, and the Broadcom CEO's personal involvement and the key guarantees ultimately pushed the deal to a smooth close.
