IT Home October 27 news: The Haier Group announced in a post that the National AI Application Pilot Testing Base for home appliances and consumer electronics (hereinafter referred to as the "Pilot Testing Base") held its construction launch ceremony today (October 27) in Qingdao.

Recommended by the Ministry of Commerce, approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, and built by Haier Smart Home, the base's launch event was attended by more than 200 industry expert representatives from home appliance companies, AI technology teams, universities and research institutes.

The base aims tobuild a globally leading pilot testing base for "next-generation smart home appliances", moving AI innovation from "going it alone" to industry-wide "joint efforts", accumulating reusable public capabilities, and promoting large-scale, standardized application of artificial intelligence.

Note from IT Home: Pilot testing, or "intermediate-stage testing", refers to transitional testing that converts new products in the trial-production stage into the production process. It is a smaller-scale production trial and optimization process conducted after a product has been successfully developed in the laboratory and before it officially enters mass production. The National AI Application Pilot Testing Base (home appliances and consumer electronics direction) is the nation's first national AI application pilot testing base in the home appliances and consumer electronics direction.

According to the Haier Group, AI is rapidly integrating into home appliance products, scenarios and industry chains, but there are still bottlenecks in industrial implementation.

  • At the product level, applying AI technology to home appliance products and home scenarios requires multiple stages including hardware adaptation, function development, scenario verification and reliability testing, with each step requiring complex scenario verification.

  • At the enterprise level, interoperability between different brands, categories and devices is difficult, and proactive service capabilities across spaces and scenarios are insufficient.

  • At the industry level, AI applications involve algorithms, computing power, data, talent, standards and security, and companies of different sizes face high costs and long cycles from repeated investment, making it hard to form synergies.

The above problems span multiple companies, multiple types of technology and multiple industry segments, and cannot be independently solved by a single company. Building a pilot testing base for the entire industry is precisely aimed at breaking the "fighting separately" model, turning "technically feasible" into "engineering-reproducible and mass-producible products", providing support for cultivating new momentum in consumption.

The Pilot Testing Base will build five major capabilities: product pilot testing, scenario pilot testing, industry pilot testing, large-scale promotion, and standards and safety.

  • On the consumer side,it will promote intelligent product upgrades and cross-brand, cross-device interoperability。

  • On the industry side, it will promote AI's entry into core segments such as R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, marketing and services.

Relying on these capabilities, the base will take on three roles:

  • the "connector" of industry chain collaboration:promoting upstream-downstream coordination and solving the problem of poor matching between demand and technology;

  • the "accelerator" of technology transfer:connecting research efforts upstream and industrial mass production downstream, accelerating AI from R&D to industrialization;

  • the "incubator" of high-quality application deployment:providing public services, lowering the threshold for innovation, and amplifying the value of innovation through sharing.

At the launch ceremony, the Pilot Testing Base appointed several experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi'an Jiaotong University, the China Household Electric Appliance Research Institute, iFLYTEK and other institutions, signed agreements with the first batch of ecosystem partners including China Mobile Communications Group, Huawei and Volcano Engine, and initiated an "AI + consumption" coordinated development matrix, recruiting innovative forces from across society to jointly grow the ecosystem.
