PublishedAI News · 1 minute read · Oct 28, 202610Bank of America recently sent customers a warning email titled "Protecting Your Finances in an AI World," explicitly urging customers never to share their bank account usernames, passwords, and related credentials with any third-party artificial intelligence tools or agent services claiming to act on their behalf.
As personal AI assistants and agentic payment tools become increasingly widespread, some users have begun experimenting with entrusting their login information to AI assistants in order to enable autonomous shopping or find the best prices.
However, this practice carries enormous security and compliance risks: not only could it lead to AI conducting financial operations without the user's knowledge, it can also easily trigger a bank's risk-control mechanisms and result in the account being locked. More seriously, security vulnerabilities in the AI assistant itself could cause sensitive credentials to leak, giving hackers an opening to break in. In its statement, Bank of America emphasized that under most financial institutions' account agreements, customers bear the consequences arising from the disclosure of their login information.
At present, traditional financial institutions and payment processors are accelerating their exploration of compliant integration of AI agents in the financial sector, but how to balance the convenience of intelligent services with the absolute security of funds remains a core issue the entire industry urgently needs to regulate.
