AI Learning by Doing, Creating the Future | BAAI SoulAgent Continues to Expand Educational Applications

From October 19 to 24, the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (hereinafter referred to as "BAAI") visited the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China on consecutive days, successively supporting events such as the Beijing "Learning by Doing" Pilot Action Haidian District work deployment meeting and Symposium on Science and Engineering Practice, and the "AI Learning by Doing, Creating the Future — Symposium on AI Empowering Innovative Talent Cultivation", carrying out practice and exchanges around the application of SoulAgent in real classroom, teaching-research, and learning scenarios.

SoulAgent is a "personal AI agent that understands you better the more you use it," launched by BAAI (Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence). In educational scenarios, SoulAgent explores directions such as "attending classes for me," teacher AI avatars, essay grading, and teaching Q&A, exploring how AI can help teachers improve teaching efficiency and accumulate teaching content, while supporting students in understanding problems, expanding their thinking, and continuously reflecting through methods such as feedback and follow-up questions.

"Help Me Attend Classes": Listen to multiple classes simultaneously, keeping classroom content continuously serving teaching research

In scenarios such as open classes, class observation, and teaching research, multiple courses are often held at the same time. Teachers need to pay attention to the classroom in person while also recording content, sorting out key points, and completing post-class reviews; with limited time, it is difficult to cover all the courses of interest.

SoulAgent's "Help Me Attend Class" uses AI shorthand, intelligent summarization, and continuous Q&A to assist in recording classroom content and organizing key teaching points. Even without being able to enter every classroom, teachers can review lessons of interest after class and continue asking questions about the classroom content, so "attending class" is no longer limited to entering only one classroom at a time.

During the event on October 21, 27 open classes were connected to SoulAgent's 'Help Me Attend Class' feature, which, through functions such as organizing classroom text and outlining teaching key points, provides a reference for teachers to review classes and conduct teaching retrospectives. That morning, multiple research lessons were held in parallel, and in the afternoon the event moved directly into 7 teaching-research sub-forums. The classroom notes and summaries produced can also serve as a shared reference for subsequent discussions, reducing the need to repeatedly review class content and freeing up more time for teaching analysis, experience exchange, and in-depth discussion.

From class records to after-class follow-up questions, and further to teaching reviews and teaching research exchanges, SoulAgent hopes to allow one-time classroom content to further settle into queryable, reviewable, and sustainably usable teaching resources.

Teacher AI Avatars: Letting AI First Understand Teachers, Then Assist Teaching

If "help me attend the class" solves the problem of how classroom information can be recorded and used more efficiently, then the teacher's AI avatar further confronts the question of how AI can truly adapt to different teachers' teaching styles.

Different teachers have their own course designs, grading standards, annotation habits, and feedback priorities; real teaching does not operate on a completely unified set of standards. SoulAgent continuously accumulates a teacher's course materials, evaluation criteria, annotation samples, feedback approaches, and practical feedback from actual use, forming an exclusive digital twin of the teacher. On this basis, a teacher's AI twin can assist with tasks such as essay grading, class summaries, and teaching Q&A according to that specific teacher's professional standards, and through continued use it gradually comes to approximate the teacher's own grading standards and teaching style.

Therefore, a teacher's AI avatar does not provide the same set of "standard answers" for all teachers; instead, it consolidates each teacher's own knowledge, experience, and professional standards, allowing the AI to first understand the teacher and then provide assistance according to the teacher's requirements.

From teacher AI avatars to English essay grading, entering real teaching tasks

In the scenario of grading English compositions, teachers provide professional reference materials such as scoring criteria, annotation samples, and review materials. The SoulAgent teacher AI avatar brings these teaching standards into specific grading tasks, allowing personalized grading reports for an entire class to be generated quickly.

In practical application, the SoulAgent teacher AI avatar can, according to specific teaching needs, provide students with more targeted revision suggestions, while also helping teachers sort out class-wide common problems, typical cases, and directions for improvement, and continuously accumulating valuable content for use in subsequent reviews, lesson preparation, and teaching.

For students, feedback goes further than a single score toward specific analysis of problems and suggestions for revision; for teachers, it can reduce some repetitive analytical and organizational work, freeing more time for classroom review sessions and individual guidance; for teaching research, it enables more systematic identification of common problems and teaching priorities based on real teaching data.

Visit campus sites and engage face-to-face with frontline teachers and students

During the two events, teachers from different disciplines explored and experienced SoulAgent through real tasks such as class records, lesson preparation, homework feedback, and teaching Q&A, while students interacted around scenarios such as knowledge Q&A, after-class learning, and follow-up questions. Through questionnaires, a co-creation wall, and face-to-face exchanges, teachers and students shared their actual experiences and expectations regarding AI-assisted teaching and learning.

From helping teachers improve teaching efficiency to providing students with more specific feedback and sustained follow-up questioning support, AI's value is moving further from "completing tasks faster" toward "better supporting thinking": enabling teachers to devote more of their professional time to instructional design and student guidance, and enabling students to devote more of their attention to understanding, judgment, and deep thinking.

In the future, BAAI will continue to deepen its cooperation with the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China in the field of education, continuously exploring AI education applications around real classrooms, teaching research, and learning scenarios. At the same time, SoulAgent will further expand into more application directions such as education, intelligent conference services, and expert avatars, allowing the personal agent that "gets to know you better the more you use it" to continue delivering value in real-world scenarios.

SoulAgent is now open for registration; you are welcome to experience it via the official website soulagent.world or the WeChat mini program "SoulAgent".
