A pair of glasses resting on the bridge of your nose is trying to shield you from the wall of language. On November 2, Alibaba's Qwen AI glasses pushed an OTA update, bringing "real-time translation" from the phone to right before your eyes — during phone calls and cross-border meetings, it can simultaneously translate the other party's words into your native language in your ear; while browsing overseas podcasts, taking foreign-language online courses, or digging into foreign films, the translation also appears in real time in the companion Qwen AI Wear app. Compared with holding up a phone to read translations, the form resting before your eyes frees up your hands and lets you follow the rhythm of conversation more naturally.
Dual-Track Translation for Calls and Media
This upgrade is split into two tracks. Call translation targets the "person-to-person conversation" scenario: whether it's an ordinary phone call or an online meeting, cross-language communication no longer requires each side to hold up a translation app — the glasses take over the simultaneous interpretation work. Media translation aims at the "person consuming content" scenario: podcasts, online courses, and movies you can't understand become accessible with synchronized translations once you put them on, removing the interruption of copying and pasting while studying or being entertained. Both tracks point to one judgment — the value of wearable devices is shifting from light interactions like "reminders and notes" toward heavy tasks that genuinely digest information for people.
Noise Resistance and the Flagship Takes Over
For translation to be accurate, it must first hear clearly. This update specifically optimizes speech recognition in noisy environments, making simultaneous interpretation more accurate and better able to keep pace — essentially laying the foundation for this capability in real-world scenarios. On the hardware side, things are moving forward too: after the G1, which went on sale in March this year, Alibaba has now introduced the flagship S1, which comprehensively surpasses the previous generation in interaction, display, battery life, and hardware configuration. With translation, noise reduction, and a better wearing experience stacked together, AI glasses are one step closer to becoming a "daily external brain."
