IT之家 News on October 13: STEP Terminal's first large-model native agent phone, the STEPX Neo Early Edition, was officially launched tonight. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 series chip and uses a 16GB+256GB configuration, offered in two colors, Carbon Black and Silicon Silver. With software, hardware, and model integrated as a trinity, the full-stack price (including the STEPX Neo phone itself, StepAOS+Step Studio, and the Step series models) is 3999 yuan.。

The new phone opened pre-sales today and will officially go on first sale on October 16 at 10:13. Users who purchase the STEPX Neo Early Edition will enjoy the STEPX Token Plan with a continuous 12-month usage allowance of tens of billions of Tokens per month, providing strong support for AI makers exploring native agent applications.
In addition, STEPX has launched the "STEP Amoo Growth Plan": the first 10,000 users who complete the required tasks will receive a "Starship Ticket," allowing them within the next five years to trade in their STEPX Neo for 0 yuan toward any new STEPX terminal.

According to the company, the STEP Terminal STEPX Neo phone features a "retro-futuristic aesthetics" design, with a back panel that blends a transparent mechanical feel with the visual character of an intelligent life form. Through five Easter eggs — "42", the "user_potential" code, Turing test binary, the Deep Blue checkerboard, and the Transformer architecture — it aims to string together the history of AI exploration, from science fiction imagination to machine intelligence breakthroughs to the development of large models.

The STEPX Neo's agent auditory enhancement system consists of a six-microphone array, a low-power audio sensing chip, and the Whisper 1.0 sound pickup algorithm, enabling STEP Amoo to accurately recognize the user's voice even in complex sound environments;meanwhile, the low-power chip runs independently, consuming only 1.2% of battery over 24 hours.。

The new phone has a dual-screen linkage system that proactively supports human-machine interaction sharing, with the rear screen supporting agent-exclusive expression.

STEPX Neo runs Step AOS 1.0, an agent-native operating system claimed to be built from scratch for agents, integrating long-term memory, task scheduling, and security mechanisms into the system's foundation. A dual-entry interface design lets users find the agent at any time, and lets the agent respond to user needs at any time. A large number of low-level atomic system capabilities can also be directly invoked by STEP Amoo, enabling it to remember users and even complete tasks for them.
STEP Step 5 Preview is officially integrated into Tencent WorkBuddy, bringing stronger reasoning and Agent capabilities into real office scenarios, autonomously completing deep research, data analysis, PPT generation, and multi-step complex tasks. Until October 25, users can experience it for free for a limited time in the all-scenario AI office workbench WorkBuddy, going from requirement understanding to deliverable results via natural language instructions.
IT之家 notes that, targeting ecosystem partners, STEP Amoo has reached cooperation with nearly a hundred companies or products including Alipay, Tencent, Ctrip, DiDi, CapCut, Amap, and Meituan, achieving underlying ecosystem integration in local life services, travel, office productivity, and content creation.
For makers, STEPX has launched its first AI terminal native development tool (IDE) — Step Studio, with which makers can generate AI apps, games, agents, and Skills simply by using natural language.
Based on this development environment, STEPX Neo can be fully opened up to makers in terms of models, systems, hardware, and ecosystem capabilities. At the system layer, a rich set of low-level atomic capabilities is opened up, with sensors, cameras, the Mini LED dot-matrix rear screen, and more all available for creative use, and support for connecting external services and professional agents via protocols such as MCP and A2A.
