IT Home On October 15, it was reported that YouTube announced yesterday (October 14) that in order to increase transparency regarding the use of AI in music, it has launched an AI music tagging feature on its music platform YouTube Music, which will be expanded to the main YouTube app later.

According to YouTube’s official announcement, when a song is identified as being “created mainly using generative AI” (for example, using an AI model to generate the melody, arrangement, or synthetic vocals), an obvious “AI” oval label will appear below the song name, near the artist’s or channel name. IT Home has attached the relevant image as follows:

The audience can directly see this marker while listening. If they click on this AI tag, a detailed menu will pop up further, explaining to the user how this song uses AI and helping them understand what is being played more clearly.

In terms of AI music tagging, the labeling system combines active reporting from music partners and AI detection tools on the YouTube platform itself. When creators submit music data, they need to select among the following three detailed categories:

  • Fully Gen AI creation (Fully Gen AI): Refers to tracks that are entirely generated through text prompts, where both the lyrics, composition, instrumental performance, and vocals of the entire song are completed by a generative AI model.

  • Partly Gen AI: Covers musicians' self-taped recordings or live performances, but includes cases where AI is used to assist in generating backing chords, a section of melody, lyrics, or sound effects.

  • No Generative AI used: Traditional music production as usual. It is worth noting that the use of sound pitch correction software such as Auto-Tune or automated master balance software will be classified as “no AI used”.

If the uploader does not actively file a declaration, YouTube’s internal detection system will also use various technical signals to automatically make judgments and mark them.
