IT之家 reported on October 16 that the tech media MacRumors published a blog post today (October 16), reporting that Meta and Apple have broken the ice with a cooperation, enabling the "strongest-performing American open-weight model to date," Muse Spark Open, to run locally on two Mac Studios.
IT之家 reported earlier today that Meta launched the open-weight model Muse Spark Open, with a total of 816.0 billion parameters, of which 42.0 billion are active parameters, and a context window of 1 million tokens, mainly targeting complex work scenarios such as programming, agent tasks, multi-step reasoning, and software engineering.
In this release, the most notable highlight is the ice-breaking cooperation between Meta and Apple. The media outlet pointed out that over the past years, the two companies have long been at odds over business, privacy, regulation, and product ecosystems, and this technical cooperation centered on running Muse Spark Open locally on the Mac Studio is a rare instance of public collaboration.
The demonstration ran Muse Spark Open on 2 Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios equipped with 512GB of unified memory, using the latest MLX framework.
Meta CEO Zuckerberg and Apple CEO John Ternus both confirmed the cooperation on social platforms. Ternus said the Mac Studio continues to push the boundaries of on-device AI capabilities; Zuckerberg said the model runs well on the new Mac Studio.

However, this setup is not cheap. The 512GB version of the Mac Studio has not yet officially gone on sale and is expected to launch later this month; the 256GB version of the Mac Studio is already priced at over $10,000 (IT之家 note: approximately 67,030 RMB at the current exchange rate).
