ITHome October 16 news: NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said that customer orders for AI chips continue to exceed the company's ability to supply them; even as tech stocks currently undergo a sharp selloff, raising market questions about how buyers will fund the industry's massive expansion, the strong demand momentum remains undiminished.
In a BG2 podcast interview broadcast on Thursday, Huang revealed that new orders are "pouring in almost weekly, daily”。
We have been continuously increasing supply, but the backlog of undelivered orders keeps rising.
Leading cloud service providers, emerging AI cloud computing operators, and hardware device manufacturers have all placed huge orders. Huang said that customers' demand forecasts generally extend at least a year ahead, and the largest customers' planning horizons even stretch to two years out。
However, the actual quotas NVIDIA currently allocates to these customers remain far below their actual demand. Huang pointed out that tight power supply, unfinished data centers, and shortages of manufactured components are also key bottlenecks limiting the company's ability to accelerate supply expansion.
ITHome noted that, in response to concerns that companies like OpenAI and Anthropic must generate enormous revenue sufficient to cover trillions of dollars in AI infrastructure investment, Huang countered: "People have a misunderstanding of the industry's current state."
According to Huang's estimate, frontier AI labs account for only about 25% to 30% of NVIDIA's overall computing demand, with the rest coming broadly from traditional computing architecture upgrades, startup teams, and developers of proprietary business applications.
Huang emphasized: "They do not need to reach trillions of dollars in revenue to prove their success."
