IT Home October 16 news — In the early hours of today (16th) Beijing time, Reuters, citing four people familiar with the matter, reported that as the continuously rising cost of AI financing has raised market concerns, after Anthropic released its latest financial data, some existing investors and investors preparing to participate in the IPOhave begun to consider lowering their valuations of Anthropic。
According to three of the sources, some investors attended an Anthropic investor day event held in San Francisco and discussed a valuation of about 1.5 trillion US dollars (IT Home note: approximately 10.05 trillion RMB at current exchange rates). Previously, investors had expected Anthropic's valuation at the time of its listing in Novemberto be about 2 trillion US dollars(approximately 13.41 trillion RMB at current exchange rates).
Anthropic disclosed to potential investors that its third-quarter revenue reached 16.8 billion US dollars (currently about 112.61 billion RMB), up 45% quarter-over-quarter, and that it achieved profitability after adjusting certain financial items.
While the performance figures eased some investors' concerns about the high cost of AI development, the slowing revenue growthstill disappointed some investors.Anthropic's second-quarter revenue reached 11.6 billion US dollars (currently about 77.755 billion RMB), more than double the first quarter, while the third quarter's quarter-over-quarter growth fell to 45%.
The market's reception of Anthropic's listing could also affect the outlook for the entire AI industry. Investors believe that, in the short term, the performance of the AI market depends largely on whether Anthropic can successfully go public, and whether OpenAI can then list next year.
Investors' concerns about Anthropic's valuation come as global financial markets are hit bya sell-off in tech stocks, affecting AI infrastructure companies, chipmakers, and emerging cloud providers that lease computing power to AI companies. CoreWeave, which received investment from Nvidia, saw its share and bond prices plunge on Thursday, reflecting growing market concern about AI infrastructure construction's reliance on debt financing.
If Anthropic's listing performs poorly, investors' concerns about the AI infrastructure investment boom could deepen further.
Previous reports said that Anthropic's revenue in 2025 grew to about 12 times the previous year's level, reaching nearly 4.6 billion US dollars (currently about 30.834 billion RMB), but its operating loss still exceeded 8 billion US dollars (currently about 53.624 billion RMB) after excluding the impact of debt write-downs mainly caused by earlier financing.
Anthropic's prospectus states that AI's impact on the global economy will exceed the transformations brought by industrialization, electricity, and the internet. Anthropic also disclosed a loss of 42 billion US dollars in 2025 (currently about 281.525 billion RMB), and expects that building AI infrastructure will require additional investment in the future.
