IT之家 News on 10/17: The Korea Herald reported on the 13th of this month local time that Samsung SDI plans to mass-produce cylindrical lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for AI server battery backup unit (BBU) application scenarios as early as 6/2027.
IT之家 noted that samples of this productwere previously exhibited at last month's DCWA 2026. Based on proprietary structural technology,it further enhances safety while improving output power and capacity。

Samsung SDI plans to produce the anode for this battery product at its second plant in Malaysia. The plant already has a ternary lithium battery production line. To keep the raw materials of the two battery types separate, the plant will introduce necessary equipment such as mixers and raw material mixing storage tanks.
The introduction of AI server BBU LFP cylindrical batteries is expected to further improve the utilization rate of Samsung SDI's cylindrical battery production line, which had previously dropped to just over 50% at one point due to weak demand in the electric vehicle and power tool sectors.
