IT Home On October 18, according to a report by The Guardian today, the World Bank is urging developing countries to develop small AI models. These models can operate via edge computing on devices such as phones in areas with poor network connections, helping these countries fully realize the potential of artificial intelligence.

World Bank Chief Knowledge Officer Paschal Donohoe said that AI can accelerate the development of emerging economies, but it must be adjusted according to local needs. He explained, “We believe that the economic development of some countries might originally take hundreds of years, but now these countries are expected to achieve it within decades.”
At the same time, he also gave an example of the World Bank’s AgriConnect agricultural program, which involves Indian farmers: They can use mobile phones to run small AI systems for soil analysis, allowing crops to grow faster. The World Bank needs to cooperate with governments and the private sector to bring such products into existence.
