Published onAI News · 1 minute read · Oct 19, 202631.7kData released by Vercel on Thursday shows that Jev, the lightweight decision model created by TypeSafe AI, has been adopted by 35% of paid teams within two weeks of launch, with coverage reaching nearly twice that of the second-ranked Sonnet5.5 model, setting the fastest model adoption speed in the history of the Vercel platform.
Jev was released in limited availability on September 15, achieving higher speed and lower cost by limiting the number of preset outputs, becoming an ideal choice for quickly classifying large volumes of data, and has already prompted companies such as OpenAI and Amazon to launch competing products. As an early adopter, Vercel has used Jev to replace GPT-6Luna for identifying harmful instructions.
The relevant data comes from the Vercel AI Gateway, a unified API service similar to OpenRouter, and the report also notes that open-source models now account for more than 70% of processed tokens and nearly 25% of total spending, while spending on frontier labs has also grown tenfold.
This trend shows that efficient lightweight decision models and the open-source ecosystem are rapidly penetrating real businesses, with frontier models and open-source alternatives developing in a complementary rather than competitive manner.
